Born to a family of famous artists, it is no surprise that Harout Fazlian has become not only one of the leading musicians in Lebanon,also, the much admired and respected maestro in the symphonic and operatic lifein Lebanon. |
Maestro Fazlian started his musical education at an earlyage in Beirut, studying the piano and violin. In 1976, he immigrated toMontreal, Canada and continued his musical studies there. In 1983 he travelledto Yerevan, Armenia to continue his formal education in Classical music. During his 7 years of intense musical education, Harout Fazlian received his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees both with Honors in Symphony and OperaConducting. Maestro Fazlian has PhD degree in Music Education.
Upon his return to Montreal in 1990, Maestro Fazlian startedhis journey in shaping his conducting career. In the early days of his career,he was appointed as Assistant Conductor to the Yerevan Symphony Orchestra. In1992, he participated in the International Conductor’s Competition of CzechMusic and won Second Prize. He was also presented with a Special Jury Prize forBest Interpretation of Dvořak’s “Carnival Overture” and Symphony No. 8.
In 1996, Maestro Fazlian moved back to Lebanon to give hisshare in rebuilding his homeland specifically in the field of the Arts. At once Maestro Fazlian started to obtain recognition in Lebanon by his work with several choirs and with his teaching post as professor in the Lebanese National Higher Conservatory of Music.
Upon its foundation in 1999, Maestro Fazlian was appointed one of the conductors of the Lebanese National Symphony Orchestra where hestill gives regular concert with great acclaim. In 2004, he joined the Haigazian University family as professor of Music and has also helped informing and establishing it’s Music Department.
His conducting career has seen him conduct concert in more than 20 countries around the world.
Harout Fazlian has also composed incidental music for theatre plays, TV programs and Film. In 2006 he was commissioned by theCommittee of International Francophone Countries to compose music based onNadia Tueni’s poems which was received with great acclaim.
In 2007 in collaboration with the Lebanese poet Henri Zogheib, translated into Lebanese Arabic Mozart’s Bastien and Bastienne Complete Opera. Other than being his original idea, Maestro Fazlian adapted the translated text into the score and conducted the World Premiere with the Lebanese National Symphony Orchestra with an all Lebanese cast.
Maestro Fazlian has performed several high profile concerts in the UAE, namely, the Sheikh Zayed Book Awards and the “Mubadala” Formula One Gala Events.
In 2010, Harout Fazlian conducted his newly arranged complete version of Rimski-Korasakov’s “Scheherazade” in the Assilah Art Festival in Morocco. In his new concept, Fazlian incorporated traditional Middle Eastern Instruments alongside western classical instrument, achieving new colors and tones.
Since the year 2000, Harout Fazlian has been the Principal Conductor for the great Lebanese singer Julia Boutros. He has also conducted concerts for Magida el Roumi. In 2010, Maestro Fazlian conducted the much anticipated concerts of the Lebanese Diva Fayrouz.
Maestro Fazlian has been awarded with an Honorary Doctor's Degree from the International Academy of Sciences of Nature and Society of Armenia and has also been awarded with a Certificate of Honors from the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Armenia.
